Office & Guest Room
Dual Purpose Home Office and Guest Room Furniture
A room that works as a home office five days a week and a comfortable guest bedroom when visitors arrive requires smart furniture design.
Two Rooms in One - Done Properly
A spare room with a desk in the corner and a sofa bed is a compromise in both directions. The office feels temporary and the guest bed is uncomfortable. A properly designed dual-purpose room gives you a full working office and a proper guest bed in the same space - without either feeling like an afterthought.
We design rooms around Murphy-style wall beds that fold up into a cabinet unit when not in use. When the bed is folded away the room is a proper home office with a fitted desk, shelving and storage. When guests arrive the bed folds down to reveal a full-size mattress with bedside shelving built into the surrounding cabinetry.
How We Approach Dual-Purpose Room Design
The Guest Bed
We use Murphy-style wall bed mechanisms that fold a full-size mattress up into a cabinet unit. When folded away the front of the cabinet can serve as additional shelving, a noticeboard or simply a clean panel that matches the surrounding furniture. Bedside shelving and reading lights are built into the surrounding cabinetry so guests have everything they need.
The Office
The desk, shelving and storage are positioned so they remain fully usable regardless of whether the bed is up or down. We design the layout so you do not need to dismantle your workspace when guests arrive - the bed folds down into a separate zone of the room.
Cable Management
All cables are routed through built-in channels so nothing is visible or gets caught when the bed mechanism operates. Power sockets and USB charging points are integrated into the desk surface and bedside areas.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Our wall beds use standard full-depth mattresses - the same as a regular bed. When folded down the sleeping experience is identical to a conventional divan or bedframe. We recommend a mattress depth of up to 20cm for smooth folding operation.
This depends on the room size and bed orientation. We design the layout so the bed folds down into clear floor space without needing to move the desk or chair. In most rooms a double wall bed requires around 2.1m of clear floor depth in front of the unit.
