Built-in Desks
Bespoke Built-in Home Office Desks - A Workspace That Actually Fits
A freestanding desk pushed against a wall with gaps on either side is a compromise. We design fitted desks that use your available space properly.
Why a Built-in Desk Makes a Difference
A freestanding desk sits in a room. A built-in desk becomes part of the room. It fits wall to wall, uses awkward corners and alcoves, integrates cable management and connects to shelving and storage above, below and beside it. There are no gaps gathering dust and no wasted space.
We design and build fitted home office desks for alcoves, corners, full walls and under stairs spaces. Each desk is built to your exact dimensions and finished to match the room.
Desk Types We Build
- Alcove desks - fitted into the recess beside a chimney breast or between two walls, using the full width of the space.
- Corner desks - L-shaped worktops that wrap around a corner, giving a generous workspace without dominating the room.
- Full-wall worktops - a continuous desk surface running the full length of a wall with storage integrated above and below.
- Under stairs desks - compact workstations built into the tallest section of the understair space, often with doors to close the office away when not in use.
What We Build Into Every Fitted Desk
- Cable management - built-in cable channels from the desk surface to equipment below, with optional integrated power sockets and USB ports.
- Surface material - hardwood, veneered MDF or laminate surfaces selected for durability and appearance. We match the finish to your room.
- Storage integration - drawers, shelving and cabinets designed as part of the desk rather than bolted on as an afterthought.
- Ergonomic height - standard desk height is 73-75cm but we adjust to suit your chair and working position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We can reinforce the desk surface at the mounting point and pre-drill for clamp-style or grommet-style monitor arms. We can also build a monitor shelf into the design if you prefer not to use an arm.
A minimum depth of 60cm is recommended for comfortable screen use. We typically build at 65-70cm which gives a good balance between workspace and room space. Deeper surfaces are available where the room allows.
We can integrate an electric sit-stand mechanism into a fitted desk so the worktop section raises and lowers while the surrounding cabinetry remains fixed. This gives you the ergonomic benefit without a freestanding frame.
Most single-desk installations are completed in one day. Larger setups with shelving and cabinets typically take one to two days.
