Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making our website accessible to everyone

Our Commitment

Unique Kitchen and Bedroom Ltd is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.

We believe that the web should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, and we strive to make our website accessible to the widest possible audience.

Accessibility Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA). We have chosen Level AA as our target as this is the level required by UK legislation under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and represents best practice for commercial websites.

Measures We Take

Unique Kitchen and Bedroom Ltd takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

Technical Measures

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper HTML markup to ensure content structure is clear and navigable by assistive technologies
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed using keyboard-only navigation
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus states are provided for interactive elements
  • Alternative Text: All images include descriptive alternative text or are marked as decorative where appropriate
  • Colour Contrast: We maintain sufficient colour contrast ratios between text and backgrounds (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Resizable Text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • Responsive Design: Our website adapts to different screen sizes and orientations
  • Form Labels: All form fields have associated labels and clear instructions
  • Error Identification: Form errors are clearly identified and described in text
  • Link Purpose: The purpose of each link is clear from the link text or context
  • Skip Links: Skip navigation links allow users to bypass repetitive content
  • ARIA Attributes: Where necessary, ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes are used to enhance accessibility

Organisational Measures

  • Include accessibility as part of our internal development guidelines
  • Integrate accessibility into our design and development process
  • Provide training for our content creators on accessibility best practices
  • Conduct regular accessibility audits of our website
  • Review and update this statement annually

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Our website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Known Issues

We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are working to address them:

  • Third-party content: Some embedded content from third-party services (such as video players or social media widgets) may not be fully accessible. We work with these providers to improve accessibility where possible.
  • PDF documents: Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these documents or provide accessible alternatives.
  • Complex animations: Some decorative animations may cause issues for users with vestibular disorders. We provide reduced motion options where possible.

We are actively working to resolve these issues and improve the accessibility of our website.

Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers (including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack)
